2025 Curling World Championship
The 2025 Curling World Championship took place in Uijeongbu, Korea. Our team traveled a week early to adjust to the time difference and prepare optimally for the championship. Even at the airport, we gave interviews to SRF before embarking on the long journey. After our first night in Korea, we spent a day in Seoul sightseeing and immersing ourselves in the local culture. The following three days were dedicated to intense training in the curlingarena right next to the championship arena.
Tournament Progress
On Friday, we had the official practice session on the championship ice, followed by the official opening ceremony on Saturday and our first game. During the round robin, we played a total of 12 matches.
Round Robin Results:
5:4 vs. USA (W)
9:4 vs. China (W)
8:4 vs. Scotland (W)
9:5 vs. Japan (W)
6:5 vs. Scotland (W)
9:6 vs. Korea (W)
8:5 vs. Italy (W)
8:4 vs. Norway (W)
6:7 vs. Canada (L)
9:8 vs. Lithuania (W)
11:7 vs. Sweden (W)
7:6 vs. Denmark (W)
With a strong performance of 11 wins and just one loss, we secured first place in the group stage and qualified directly for the semifinals.
A Special Semifinal Against China
In the semifinals, we faced China. We took an early 2:0 lead in the first end, followed by six blank ends in a row! In the 8th end, China tied the game and forced us to take a single point in the 9th end. We entered the final end with a one-point lead but without the hammer. The game was on the brink of turning, but a perfectly executed final stone secured us the decisive point and a spot in the final.
Final Against Team Homan
In the final, we once again faced Team Homan, the current world No. 1, just like last year. Unfortunately, our opponents had the better day and took the title. Despite the initial disappointment, we are incredibly proud of our silver medal and our second consecutive World Championship final appearance.
Return & Reception
After a long 16-hour flight home, we were greeted by a warm welcome at the airport. A huge thank you to all the fans who supported us, cheered us on, and sent their congratulations!
Now, we focus on recovery, school, work, and targeted training before we hit the ice again at our final tournament of the season – the Grand Slam AMJ Players’ Championship in Toronto.
