Last week we had the pleasure of representing Switzerland at the European Championships. The trip started on Thursday, 16.11.2023, with a flight from Zurich to Amsterdam and then to Aberdeen. The official training session took place the following day, in which we were allowed to train on all five rinks for 12 minutes each. We wanted to get to know the ice and the stones and get a good feel for them. The competition started on Saturday with the first game against last year's European champion team from Denmark. With a very solid performance from our side and a weak game from the opposing team, we were able to win the game 12:1. We were able to maintain our strong team performance throughout the round robin phase and achieved the following results:
Game 1 against Denmark: 12:1
Game 2 against Sweden: 8:4
Game 3 against Turky: 7:4
Game 4 against Norway: 8:4
Game 5 against Czech Republic: 8:4
Game 6 against Estonia: 6:5
Game 7 against Scotland: 5:2
Game 8 against Germany: 8:6
Game 9 against Italy: 7:2
With 9 wins from 9 games, we qualified as group winners and with a good feeling for the semi-final, which we won 8:3 against the team from Norway and earned a Friday off. After a day of rest and good preparation for the final, the day followed with the battle for the European title against the team from Italy. With a very good performance from both teams, the final was a very interesting and nerve-wracking game, which we just managed to win with the difficult last stone. We felt a lot of joy, relief and great pride after the strong performance of a weekly team average of 88.3% at this European Championship 2023.
When we landed back in Zurich, a lot of people welcomed us at the airport. We would like to thank everyone for the beautiful and festive welcome!
Now we are home for a week before the last trip to Canada in 2023.
