The first tournament of 2025 Is behind us! The 4th Slam of the season took place in Guelph, Canada. After a short holiday break, we decided to arrive a day earlier than usual to ensure optimal preparation. The excellent ice conditions at the Guelph Curling Club allowed us to have efficient training sessions. In addition, we hit the gym to stay fit and adapt to the time zone as quickly as possible.
On Monday evening, the official practice in the arena gave us a chance to get a first impression of the ice conditions. The tournament began on Tuesday, and as the following results show, we had a strong start but struggled during the second half of the event.
Game 1 vs. Team Inglis: 4–2 Win
Game 2 vs. Team Constantini: 6–4 Win
Game 3 vs. Team Hasselborg: 2–8 Loss
Game 4 vs. Team Kim: 4–7 Loss
Thanks to solid draw-shot results, we qualified directly for the quarterfinals with 2 wins and 2 losses. This time, the process for determining quarterfinal matchups was a bit different: the top 3 teams after the group stage were allowed to choose their opponents from the remaining qualified teams.
Pick 1:Â Team Hasselborg
Pick 2:Â Team Kim
Pick 3: Team Homan – who chose us as their opponent.
Quarterfinal: Against Team Homan
The quarterfinal match took place on Saturday afternoon. We started well, taking a 1–0 lead after two ends. However, a tactical error in the third end cost us three points. From that point on, we fought hard to recover, but it wasn’t enough, and we were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Looking Ahead
Despite the early exit, we gained valuable insights and have identified clear areas for improvement. Our next challenge is the tournament in Bern, which will take place from January 23rd to 26th at the Expo Arena. We’d love to have your support – come by and cheer us on!
