2024 WORLD SILVER MEDALLISTS

The World Championships took place in Sydney, Canada, from March 16 to 24, 2024. Our trip to Canada started on March 11 so that we could get over the jet lag early and focus on preparing for the tournament. We arrived late in the evening at our hotel in Halifax, where we spent two days of preparation. With the last intensive training sessions, meetings and a Q&A session with the Halifax curling youth, we felt ready for the journey to Sydney. After the four-hour drive on Thursday morning, we settled into the hotel, went shopping, went for a walk and made our first trip to the curling arena. The official team meeting took place in the evening, where the final organizational steps were taken, such as checking the players' uniforms.

The official training session on the world championship ice took place the next day. The focus was on getting to know the ice and the stones and getting a good feeling in the arena.

The 2024 World Championship kicked off on Saturday. After a short opening ceremony at noon, we played our first round robin game at 2 p.m. against Team Gim from Korea. With a good performance in the first game, we won the match 7:4. We were also able to win the following five games with the following results:

Game 2: 10:3 against USA

Game 3: 9:3 against Estonia

Game 4: 8:7 against die Turky

Game 5: 10:3 against Japan

Game 6: 6:3 against Norway

Small mistakes crept in during games 7 and 8, which led to two defeats.

Game 7: 5:8 against Canada

Game 8: 5:6 against Scotland

Thanks to a team meeting and putting the two defeats behind us, we were able to get back to our best and won the last four round robin matches with the following results:

Game 9:10:2 against New Zealand

Game 10: 9:1 against Denmark

Game 11: 6:2 against Italy

Game 12: 4:2 against Sweden

Thanks to a round robin with 10 wins and 2 defeats, we qualified directly for the semi-final on Saturday evening, which we played against the Italian team. The game was very high quality and the Italian team played well. We won the semi-final with the last stone and this secured a place in the World Cup final on Sunday evening.

On Sunday, the time had come to play for the World Championship gold against Team Canada. With a strong performance in the first half, we were able to create a small advantage for ourselves. However, small mistakes in the second half allowed the strong Team Canada to play themselves into a better position and they ultimately secured the world championship title.

On Monday, we flew back to Switzerland with the silver medal in our luggage. On the one hand, a teary eye, on the other hand, we can be proud of the runner-up world championship title.

In two weeks we will be flying to Canada for the last time this season to the Grand Slam of Curling in Toronto, which will also be our final tournament of the season.
